about

After last year's experimental and avant-garde subway ride "Subway EP", Ali and the Clouds returns with a 9-track LP "the last week". It's a thematic experimental album about death and pain.

"I received the news of the death of a very close family friend. He was diagnosed with cancer and died at an early age. This sad event inspired the theme of the album. "the last week" chronicles the last week of a man's life. The album focuses on the themes of pain and grief. The weight of accepting death in uncertainty. I chose to handle these themes with a more minimalist and poetic sound, compared to my previous albums.

I wanted some songs to sound like they were resonating from an old scratchy record. I think these sizzles give a raw and realistic atmosphere. I synthsized my own vocals and the field recordings I recorded.

The Turkish lyrics of the album's opening song "sorrow grows inside" symbolize the theme of the album, "Don't worry about me, I'm diving into eternity, into the void of the other world". I gave the loop of this song a kind of lo-fi form to create "melancholy".

The four songs in the album represent the names of the week. "monday, tuesday" and "thursday, friday" are an aural representation of the protagonist's semi-conscious days in the hospital. On "wednesday", the patient listens to outside sounds in his bed. Children are playing in the street. The final piece, "sunday, saturday", tells about the inevitable end, death. I added the radio channel voice to this track. The song has the mystical synth tunes.

"the lament" is the darkest track on the album. A certain loop progresses until the end of the track, sometimes quite close to the listener, sometimes from far away. "ominous" and "the uncertain place" describe the uneasiness of the situation. "ominous" is a kind of the delirium from the patient.

"the cell" refers to the disease that spreads slowly to the cells with its tectonic beats. The breakdown is completed with the shimmering strings towards the finale of the song.
